Everything You Need to Know When Choosing Men’s Mountain Bikes
Contrary to popular belief, choosing the best men’s mountain bikes to use does not really have to be difficult. You job could be made easier as long as you have the right information you need to make the right decision. With that information, you can purchase a bike that is right for your own personal preference and needs.
The most basic but very important guideline to keep in mind when buying men’s mountain bikes is to ensure that it is a true bike. As you know, there is a huge difference between what is considered a regular bike from a mountain bike. So, you have to identify that distinction before you can move onto the succeeding steps. Road bikes, after all, lack the capacity present in mountain bikes to navigate difficult terrains, something of which the latter is designed specifically for.
The next important factor to look when buying men’s mountain bikes is the bike frame. As compared to regular bikes, they have relatively more suspension and are much heavier than the former. This will enable riders to overcome difficult and high terrains. There are different types of suspension that you must also be keeping an eye on, such as hard-tail, soft-tail, rigid, and dual suspension. Your choice of bike suspension is crucial in your final choice of bike.
When it comes to the bike frame, you might also want to check the angles of the frame, most notably the ones at the head tube and the seat tube. A wide angle is ideal so you can maintain good handling while trying to pedal your bike in an uphill terrain. If you want high speed riding in a downhill terrain, then shorter angles are best recommended for that.
Lastly, check the brakes of the men’s mountain bikes for your own safety. Two standard types of brakes are available to choose from: the standard v-brakes and disc brakes. The disc brake is preferred by many since it provides a more reliable brake system, even for different types of terrains. Plus, maintenance is easy and are far more durable with disc brakes over standard v-brakes on men’s mountain bikes.

Mountain Bike Tires For Mountain Bikes
Mountain bike tires for mountain bikes are generally the most appropriate tires to put on a set of mountain-bike wheels. Bicycles fall into a few different categories, for the most part. People are usually most familiar with the two main categories; road bikes and mountain bikes. There is also a category of bike known as a hybrid, which has many characteristics of both road and mountain types.
Road bikes are distinguished by their extreme light weight in many cases and also the super-skinny wheels and tires that the bicycle frame sits on. One would never mistake a road bike for a mountain-bike, and one should never try to ride a road bike off-road, on the dirt or on any sort of mountain-bike trail. Mountain bikes, on the other hand, are specifically engineered for such off-road circumstances.
Mountain bike tires themselves come in a number of different sizes. Usually, they are classified by their inches in diameter such as 20 inch and 24 inch. Technically speaking, there is much more that goes into sizing of a tire for a mountain bike wheel than just calling it a 24 inch or even a 26 inch wheel. For instance, there is the matter of the width of the tire itself.
Mountain bike tires are distinguished by their very wide widths and knobby-looking rubber treads. This is because the tires are made for extreme riding on technical singletrack mountain trails or off-road environments. They are not very efficient and don’t ride easily on pavement or concrete. However, that is not where a tire for a mountain bike will excel.
Rather, mountain bike tires are at their best when they are being ridden over really rough terrain. Like most other bicycle tires that are what are called “clinchers, ” these tires are part of a unit which includes the wheel and a rubber or latex rubber inner tube. The tire itself clinches onto the rim of the bicycle wheel and is held onto the ride by a wire bead running along the rim of the tire.
Many people have memories of repairing a flat on a bicycle tire and can recall having to wrestle the tire off the wheel and fix or replace the inner tube that had been pierced by a thorn or a piece of glass that had made its way through the tire. With mountain bike tires, the likelihood of such a flat when the tire is properly inflated is much less likely because the tire is so sturdy.
Unlike road bike wheels, though, there is a great deal of rotating weight on a mountain-bike wheel. This means that the tire — because it is so big and thick — contributes to even more weight that is added along with the weight of the mountain bike wheel itself, which is also sturdily constructed and able to stand up to a lot of abuse.
This is one reason why a mountain bike can weigh over twice what a really nice road bike might weigh, though the two bicycles should not really be compared with each other, as they are built for different purposes. Mountain bike tires, just like road bike tires, have their place and generally tend to do the job they are called upon to do with a great deal of confidence and durability.

Mountain Bikes – 5 Things You Should Know About Them
For the first time buyer, the choice of a mountain bike might be daunting. Mountain bikes are not your everyday bikes and are especially designed for cycling on difficult terrain. You can use these types of bikes to navigate hilly areas, steep declines, rocky mountain and any other sort of unpaved road. Here are a few important things you should know about mountain bikes.
• Mountain bikes are very different from regular use cycles and racing cycles. They are built to withstand the jerks and pressure of use on uneven terrain. You should ensure that the model you are looking at is a genuine mountain bike. If you use regular bikes on hilly terrain the results could be disastrous.
• You can also choose your bike according to the type of terrain it is best suited for. Varieties like the cross country bike have little suspension and a light frame. All-mountain bikes are generally heavier and feature more suspension. You could also choose from free ride or down hill bikes that differ from each other in terms of weight and strength. Both types are basically used for racing on inclines.
• You will have to check the frame of your mountain bike to ascertain its critical angles. The critical angles of the bike include the angle of its head tube and the seat tube. These are to be measured as the distance from the horizontal axis. The angles make a lot of difference to the rider’s position on the bike and the bike’s characteristics. As a rule of thumb, steeper angles are helpful for pedaling uphill and better handling. Angles tending towards zero give higher speed and more stability on downhill courses.
• You will have to check the type of suspension on your mountain bike. This could be fully rigid, hard – tail, soft-tail or dual suspension. The suspension essentially protects the bike and the rider from the shocks of a rough terrain. This is one of the most important parts of the bike. There are many new variants in the mountain bike market offering buyers different types of suspension, but most hard-core bikers routinely prefer a hard-tail frame.
• The final check on your mountain bike should be its brakes. They may be standard V-brakes or the newer disc brakes. Disc brakes are generally preferred over older versions because they give the rider more power under a variety of conditions. Disc brakes are also easier to maintain and last longer than conventional brakes.

Specialized Mountain Bikes
A specialized mountain bike is one that has especially been customized to meet the requirements of the rider. These bikes have customized parts and accessories added to a basic version. Adding or making a small change can make a significant difference in the comfort of the biking experience.
A specialized bike can either be ordered directly from a dealer or can be customized at home by ordering the necessary parts and accessories. However, it is advisable that customizing a mountain bike yourself should only be undertaken if you are an experienced mountain biker and are aware of the various options available. If you are a beginner and mainly indulge in mountain biking as a leisure activity, a basic mountain bike model without customization should be adequate. With growing experience and knowledge, you will be in a better position to customize your own bike.
Mountain bike specialization could include improving the bike’s performance by adding more and better parts, or improving its looks. There is no shortage of mountain bike parts that you can buy. To customize your bike, you can add new brakes, pedals, gears or handlebars. You can change its frame, suspension system or tires. You can also make your bike trendier and flashier by painting it the color of your choice. The sales staff will try to sell you anything they can but you need to decide what parts are needed to make your rides safe and enjoyable and what parts may be added simply to make the bike look cool.
There is virtually no limit to the amount of money you can spend on customizing your mountain bike. It is advisable to figure out what price range you are willing to pay for the various parts and try to look for parts that fit your budget, to keep your spending under control.

Many people underestimate just how important a bike rack can be, but it really can help to make the whole mountain biking experience a lot more enjoyable. Think about it – when you travel with your bike, without a bike rack it can be awkward and that can cause you to become stressed. So by having a bike rack it allows you to easily take your bike with you and that does make the experience a lot more enjoyable.
Overall mountain biking should be fun and it will be as long as you have the right equipment. Make sure that you choose a good, sturdy rack and if you are in any doubt at all, choose a Yakima rack wherever possible.

Full Suspension Mountain Bikes Require Thorough Consideration
Buying full suspension mountain bikes is something that should be done with care. Although this is an exciting time for mountain bike enthusiasts, it can also be a time of regret if you do not follow the proper process when buying one of these bikes. Among other things you should:
o Consider the weight – If you are looking for a lightweight bike, then these bikes may not be the proper bikes to suit your needs. One of the reasons for this is because these bikes tend to be quite a bit heavier than normal bikes thanks to the fact that they include more devices and gadgets than a normal bike might.
o Maintenance can be cumbersome – While all bikes need some kind of maintenance from time to time, the type of maintenance that is needed by most full suspension bikes is quite a bit more extensive than other bikes might need. Because full suspension bikes are more complicated than other bikes, the maintenance required for these bikes could involve using some specialized tools.
o Make sure it is right for you – Just because a friend loves to ride a full suspension bike, this does not mean that you necessarily will like it as well. In fact, if you are going to be racing your mountain bike, you will likely find that most of your competitors will still be using hardtail bikes. On most mountain courses, hardtail bikes are still considered to be the most efficient choice.
o Is your comfort important? – If the answer to this question is yes (which it should be), then you may find that full suspension mountain bikes actually suit you well. Many people prefer these bikes thanks to the fact that they are so effective at helping the rider absorb the little shocks that always come as you ride down the mountain. On rough terrain, these bikes are usually much more comfortable than typical bikes.
o What would you do? – Imagine that you go ahead and purchase one of the full suspension bikes. Then what? Honestly assess what you would do to make the purchase worth your time and money. We are not talking about spending just a few hundred dollars here. The nicest suspension bikes will cost in the thousands of dollars. If you can truly see yourself using this bike often, then perhaps it would be a good bike for you.
o Ask a person you trust – If you have never purchased a full suspension bike, ask a friend or neighbor who owns one what they think about theirs. Ask them what they wish they would have checked on before they bought their bike and which features are they finding to be most beneficial. Knowing all of this can help you choose the features that you want.
o Try it out – Definitely try these bikes out for an extended ride before you decide to buy one. Perhaps renting one or borrowing one from a friend and then going for a ride in the mountains can help you come to a decision about whether or not you want the bike.
Remembering to do each of these stages can help reduce the chance that you will look back on your purchase of full suspension mountain bikes with disappointment.
